Job Location: Torquay

Description: A new hotel is to be constructed on the site of an old car park in Torquay. To produce a level site for the new hotel a 750mm diameter contiguous piled wall was installed to retain heights of 6-10m during the construction of the hotel.

To restrain the wall in the temporary and permanent case, raking piles were installed at 15deg from the vertical just behind the piled wall. They are connected via a capping. The raking piles are designed to act as anchors to the piled wall and act in tension as load is applied. The raking piles vary in length from 12-18m and are also 750mm in diameter.
